ViCTOR-E project & European Film Gateway
The EU-funded project "ViCTOR-E - Visual Culture of Trauma, Obliteration, and Reconstruction in Post-WWII Europe" ran from 2019 to 2022. It aimed to explore how non-fiction films captured the post-WWII period, and how these films contributed to the ongoing debate about reconstruction efforts at the time. One of the major outcomes of the research project is the extensive online exhibition "Frames of Reconstruction," which can be accessed at www.frames-reconstruction.eu. The project also created e-learning activities in five different languages for use in schools and at home. Additional teaching materials with background information for teachers can be found as part of the online exhibition at www.frames-reconstruction.eu/page/teaching-material. The project collaborated with the Europeana aggregator EFG - The European Film Gateway, whose partner archives made significant contributions to the project. In addition, EFG has created an extensive thematic collection of films documenting the post-war period, which can be found at www.europeanfilmgateway.eu. VICTOR-E was a collaborative research project involving the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main in Germany, the Università degli Studi di Udine in Italy, the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, and the Université Paris 1 - Panthéon Sorbonne in France. The project also worked closely with the Deutsches Filminstitut und Filmmuseum (Frankfurt), the Czech National Film Archive (Prague), the Archivio Nazionale Cinema Impresa (Ivrea), the Association des Cinémathèques Européennes (ACE) and the European Film Gateway.
