The Road to War (WWII)
At what point did WWII become inevitable?

The aim of this activity is to help students orient themselves in the international events that ultimately led to the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. This can form the foundation for a deeper study of questions regarding the relative significance of various contributing factors to the outbreak of the conflict. In this activity, students develop an appreciation of the chronology of international events in the lead-up to war, and explore the concept of causation by examining the impact of events on the ‘road to war’. The activity also allows for student creativity to develop a visual representation of historical events that might helpfully be displayed in the classroom for reference in future lessons.
