Suffragists

The term 'suffragist' often causes confusion. In the United States it's the term used to define all women fighting for the vote, rather like the term 'suffragette' in Britain. 'Suffragist' in British history, however, describes those who were of moderate opinions and believed in moderate, democratic methods. They were very critical of direct action because they believed it undermined support from the people.
