Moriscos ask the King for tax exemption

Since traditionally they had been protected by the Crown, they never stopped talking to the authorities. Many times the leaders of the Morisco communities asked the King to put a stop to the excessive taxation they were suffering. In 1604, only 5 years before their expulsion, Moriscos presented a document demanding tax equity with other citizens of Spain. This document highlighted the legal inconsistencies of the taxation policy towards the Moriscos. Nevertheless, in spite of their demands, nothing was changed.
