This is an extract from the testimony of Gastone Sgargi, partisan in the Stella Rossa brigade. He was 19 years old and he came from Molinella, a small village 30 km east of Bologna in flatland and sent to Monte Sole by the communist party in Bologna. During 28th September he was with a platoon of Russians who had been prisoners of the Nazis but, after escaping, they had joined the Stella Rossa, led by a Soviet officer, Karaton.
