What were the consequences?

What were the consequences of Norwegianization?

Sami pupils

The strict educational politics led to the building of schools and boarding schools. They left many persons with personal traumata, and the Sami community as a whole with a feeling of powerlessness and shame. Some of the Sami started themselves to regard their culture as backward. Norwegianisation marginalized the Sami culture and led to social structural changes since the Sami were offered a place in the Norwegian nation only if they left behind everything that was considered "Sami".
