As the Finns who had been evacuated during the war were approaching retirement age, many of them started thinking more about the time spent in Sweden during the war. In the 1990s 'war children' in Finland and in Sweden started to organise in associations. In Sweden Riksförbundet Finska Krigsbarn was founded in 1992 and its counterpart in Finland in 1997. The associations help 'war children' when they search for information about the operation or about missing persons. The associations also try to assist in gathering people's experiences and supporting research on war children.
