Bogdan Murgescu

Bogdan Murgescu is professor of history at the Bucharest University. He studied history and philosophy (1982-1986) and earned a doctoral degree in history (1995) at the University of Bucharest; he has been Roman Herzog Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Berlin (1998-2000) and Visiting Professor at the University of Pittsburgh (2002) and Central European University, Budapest (2004). Currently he is director of the Center for Administrative, Cultural and Economic Studies of the University of Bucharest, vice president of the Romanian Society for Historical Sciences, national coordinator of the Romanian history competition MY HISTORY – EUSTORY and member of the Executive Committee of the EUSTORY International Association. He has published numerous academic studies and several books on the history of Romania, on Ottoman-Romanian relations, on the economic and social history of the 15th-20th centuries, on recent historiography, and has edited various collective volumes and anthologies.
